How This Works

Cost per mile = (tyre price + fitting cost) ÷ expected tyre lifespan in miles. This reveals the true long-run cost, accounting for the fact that cheaper tyres often wear faster. Premium tyres typically last 30–50% longer than budget equivalents and offer measurably shorter wet stopping distances — an important safety consideration.

Independent tests by ADAC and TÜV consistently show significant wet weather performance differences between premium and budget tyres. Budget tyres can take up to 18 metres longer to stop from 50mph in wet conditions compared to premium brands — that's 3–4 car lengths. In dry conditions differences are smaller. Budget tyres are not inherently unsafe if they are in good condition and at the correct pressure, but premium tyres offer a measurable safety margin, particularly in wet weather.
